Sanctuary

Last week I was invited to play at Menlo Park Presbyterian’s evening service called, “Sanctuary.” It was exciting to meet the people of Sanctuary as it is one of the few places known for a strong young-adult/young-professional ministry within the immediate area. The room reminded me of Koinonia Koffee House located in Campbell, CA. It was a shallow yet long room with incredible tech/av, sound, lighting. I made several new friends there and had the chance to share some of my new songs like “Waves” and “Midnight.” I was really struck by the immediate and intense spirit of worship the Sanctuary folks entered into. Often sharing new tunes can cause an audience to spectate - to sit back and decide if they like the song enough to want to engage any further. This was not the case with the gang at Sanctuary. As we sang, they re-taught me what it is to jump into worship with both feet. Thanks to Glen Steele for sitting in on the kit. Glen did a fantastic job, last minute I might add, joining us and nailing the songs. In fact, during our live performance of an original song, the computer malfunctioned and stopped playing the click track (intended to keep us all in sync). Glenn somehow managed to save the day and keep us in-time for the remainder of the song. David Barshow, the producer of Sanctuary, informed me that the chinese food we ate prior to performing was “excellent on the vocal chords.” I tried it and I have to agree! I look forward to future opportunities to be with my new friends up the peninsula.
